A Sad Lot of Landlords

When looking at an apartment, the landlady asked how I would pay for the apartment.

I said, "I have a voucher to cover a portion of the rent."

The landlady asked, "Is the voucher from 'the government?'"

I said, "Yes."

She, in a foriegn accecnt, "Ohh, no, no.  I can't accept that."

I said "Okay well, would you mind if I parked in front of the property on the public road and slept in my van."

Again she declined.

I said, "Well, that is why "the government" created the voucher program.  Society doesn't want homeless people.  So society created a voucher program to pay a portion of the rent to landlords to get their people off the street and into a good place to live."

The immigrant landlady was dumbfounded and befuddled and did not change her position.

More landlords need to read the following letter.

Potential Landlords

Blessing’s from our Dear Friend Uncle Sam

Having a section 8 voucher is a privilege.

The United States Department of Housing and Urban Development does not simply award a voucher to all who apply.

I maintain all necessary requirements with the housing authority and the department to receive such privilege.

An analogy to privilege can be made with driving.  Driving is a privilege just as a housing voucher is a privilege.  For one to receive a license or a voucher they must meet and maintain all requirements.

Thank You for being American
