Jus Braethe

A story of a time,

a time a wise old man and the author were lifting a heavy washer or dryer or some bulky appliance up a narrow flight of stairs, one step at a time, the author below providing support, the old man above leading the way.

The wise man is a well known hunky of economy in the neighborhood.  He provides general handy service for neighbors at a very reasonable rate.  Sometimes he needs assistance and moving the appliance was such an occasion.

Lifting and guiding the heavy appliance up the narrow basement stairwell was no easy task.  Both the author and old man became winded and fatigued with the appliance one step below the top, and ready for a tight turn into the proceeding hallway.

In such a winded, fatigued state the old man began to lose his patience with the progress of the project.  In his lapse of patience he chose to wield the proverbial stick of leadership to the author for a way forward.

“Okay,” began the author, “well, the first thing we are going to do is take a breath.”

“Brilliant!” said the economical ol’hunky.

Soon, with lungs replenished, progress faithfully continued to gently and generously move the appliance kindly through the narrow turn with peace and patience joyously available to them from their loving control of breath.
