Done for the day in the beautiful valley, I returned on my route and continued to enjoy WPRB while driving Wilma's sexy ass. I couldn't recall the voice signature of the green DJ from earlier but our alliterate DJ Readie was on the air. Readie was doing some Golden Record Hunt. She and her co-host were giving clues to a record store. I didn't know off hand what record store they may have been describing. I was driving and didn't care to stop and look up whatever store it could be. I arrived at the gym to refresh after a day's work. Good songs were playing and I didn't want to depart but, alas I did.
After the gym I desired food. I explored on my phone where I might get a reasonable steak. Deciding to stay in town, I chauffeured Wilma's sexy ass downtown. As always her radio is tuned to WPRB and I turned up the vibes. I identified a parking spot which required me to drive around the block. After my final turn and approaching the spot with a red light between the spot and me, Readie and her co-host began to give clues to the record store proximal to me. As I sat at the light, they continued to give obvious clues to my local record store. I began to wonder what this Golden Record Hunt was. They gave the number to the station but I missed it, was it 238 or 258? Much time passed since I listened to the station since leaving for Florida 6 months ago let alone calling-in to the station since covid.
I figured I should head to the record store to see what was going on and do so quickly. Someone was making a left holding up traffic so I was able to keep stride crossing the street. I tried to take a short cut but ended up taking a longer route. I thought "Aww man, I'm goin’ to end up congratulating somebody for something, I don't want to but I will." Passing an acquaintance sitting outside I said, “I’m heading-into the record store.” I walked to the desk and asked the young woman, “What's goin’ on with this Golden Record thing with wprb?” She knew nothing of any help to my cause. I looked along the counter and noticed a more executive man being busy. I asked him the same question.
He said there is a "Golden Record somewhere in this store."
Ohh man now I've got to find a Golden Record. I started looking, flipping through and found an album cover that was yellow and asked the guy if this was the Golden Record. It wasn't. I picked up another album cover, this time yellow with gold lettering and asked again if this were the golden record. It wasn't. He did hint that the record is in an obvious location. I took a breath and thought of my friend's border. I looked around the walls and noticed records hanging on the walls. Then the thought clicked! I'm looking for an actual record that is Gold! I finished my tours of the walls and began to flip through some cheap records, looking into the album covers to see if there were a Golden Record. Then I remembered what the guy said. I stood up and made my way down an aisle of sealed album covers, with records inaccessible. In the first aisle I chose halfway down was a yellowish record, no album cover, just the record in a clear wrapper. Moving closer I saw WPRB circumscribed in an inner diameter. My hand reached out to grab it, I didn't move my hand, the hand did so on it's own, automatic, instinctive, without thought, just a wide eyed extension and clasping, like a giant baby. I had it in my hand. This had to be it!
I walked back to the guy and asked if this was it. It was. He said, “See that word in the middle there, remember that word and call WPRB.” Before I left the store a person with his daughter congratulated me for finding the record. I returned to Wilma and attempted to go on the chat to communicate that I had the Golden Record. For some technical reason outside my control I couldn't login to the chat. I still needed to eat. I figured I'll leave this Golden Record in Wilma, order my food and return to tell WPRB, I've found their Golden Record.
Walking into the restaurant the owner warmly greeted me. I told him the good news of finding the Golden Record. He congratulated me and continued his business out the door. I ordered my food and returned to Wilma to contact WPRB. Deciding to go on their website, I found their number. Readie was off the air and different DJs were on the mic. I waited for them to finish their introductions. And now I wait for cool swag to arrive at my post!
